The game was a game of two halves for Datchet on Saturday. The first half was comprised of an unprecedented bowling performance which saw newly promoted Eversley race to 120-1 off the first 20 overs. Even the introduction of the ever reliable James Dick did not stem the flow of runs for the baggy greens.
It was not until the introduction of Tim Alldis and the promising Sam Finn that the tide turned in Datchet's favour both collecting a brace of wickets. A generous declaration saw Eversley reach 268 for 5 off 47 overs, with R. Jones hitting 107 for Eversley.
The second half began much as the first had with skipper Nick Tilley running out the evergreen Mark George and then snicking one behind to bring the score to 23-2. This bought the mercurial Tim Alldis and the massive Thomas Jones to the crease. Both played with great freedom and provided an entertaining partnership with Alldis completing a successive first league game hundred and Jones 'weighing' in with a swashbuckling 50. The loss of both of these batsmen may well have ended the run chase for other sides but solid contributions from Arun Oram, Luke Shepherd, Doug McDermott and James Lambert saw Datchet reach their target of 269 for the loss of 8 wickets with 5 balls to spare.
All in all a successful day, but Datchet cannot rely on their batting to dig them out of a hole if they are to compete with the stronger sides in the league.
Datchet welcome back Adam Jones for Saturday's home fixture against Cove 2's and are hopeful that new signing Ryan Lancefield will be available for selection.
