Datchet Lose in Rain Affected GameDatchet welcomed Eversley to the home of cricket on Saturday. With Datchet on a high after their smashing of Windsor the week before, the team went into the game with confidence. Unfortunately Andy Dick did not pass the fitness test that he had in Cardiff on Friday. England's physio, Steve McCaig said that Andrew needed another weeks rest if was to have any chance of being fit for Datchet's push for the title in the weeks to come. Nick Tilley won the toss on another good wicket at DCC and chose to bat. This was to be Datchet's high point of the day. Nick 'Tilley-kerartne' Tilley and Mark 'The wall' George both went cheaply, Tim ' the messiah' Alldis hit a brisk 30 before being caught behind, Arun 'smasher' Oram played a rash shot on 26, Thomas Jones managed to make their opening bowler look like Curtly Ambrose and got himself 'bumped' out for 20. Datchet were struggling at 105 - 5 off 16 overs. This brought Mario '5head' Stapleberg and Luke 'the read head' Shepherd to the crease. Mario batted like we all know he can with the calmness of Graeme Smith and the aggression of the tigers is Kruger Park and Luke batted like he had things to prove. Luke made 32, in a classy fashion but couldn't see it through. Mario was left to marshal the tail well with some good support from James ' pin head' Lambert but in the end was left high and dry on 47 after Ryan 'never lasted a ball in first team cricket' Stamp did manage to last 5 balls, but succumbed to their opening bowler. Datchet reached 197 in 37 overs. A well below par score.
Datchet started off with a good vibe, and opened the bowling with Tilley and Alldis. Tilley was unplayable, you could hear the Berkshire hierarchy saying 'what a waste of talent' yet again. He beat the bat on numerous occasions. Then Datchet's worst nightmare happened, Rain! Tilley and Alldis were unable to grip the ball. This forced Tilley's bruised and battered hand, the new ball had to be taken.
Lambert and Stapleburg were given the new ball. Both bowled with good pace and it was not long until Lambert had got his man, he had the opener caught at short leg. Stapleburg then bowled the other opener shortly after. Eversley were on the ropes, Datchet knew 2 more quick wickets and the game would be theirs for the taking. Stapleburg had the Australian Jones dropped at first slip by Alldis, which could have been the turning point of this game. . The Eversley captain and Jones started to take control, Tilley chopped and changed his bowling attack around, but lady luck was not with Datchet. Tilley also managed to down 2 catches later on, Datchet took a consolation wicket when the score was on 130, but it was to little too late.
Datchet were left to rue their poor top order batting and dropped catches. Credit must go to Eversley who played well. Datchet must bounce back next week at bottom of the table Cove 2 if they are to have any chance of catching local rivals Windsor.
