Datchet v Bagshot

Datchet arrived at The Wally Gage Memorial Ground with a few of the team feeling the effects of a long cricket week and a heavy night on Friday. Leading from the front ,in terms of feeling the effects, was Datchet skipper Tilley who arrived with a strange “Joker like” smile on his face.

Practice started and Tilley was soon making occasional bowler and 1st team net practice regular Stamp look like Curtly Ambrose.

Bagshot won the toss and decided to bat. Tilley arrived back into a shell shocked dressing room. The team was reeling from the news that Tilley had again managed to get a kiss from a member of the opposite sex the previous night!!

Datchet took the field and Tilley re-united “Dingi” after a week apart to open the bowling. Datchet were soon rewarded when Lambert in his first over managed to remove the opener, caught excellently at slip by Alldis. Lambert was now in the hunt for more wickets and he was soon rewarded with 3 more wickets in quick succession with 2 LBWs and a bowled (Bagshot batsman playing the leave , being bowled middle stump!)

This bought Bagshot danger man Berridge to the wicket to join skipper Davis. Berridge soon underlined this danger man tag by smashing Lambert into the bungalows.
Tilley immediately bought himself into the attack , landed his 1st ball on a perfect length and bowled Berridge!!!

Lambert then completed his 3rd 5 wicket haul of the season with his 3rd LBW and then had his sixth in the same over with Jones taking a catch behind the stumps. Bagshot were 55-7 at this point and the Datchet huddle discussion was about bowling then out for less than 100. This may well have happened had Oram held onto a very very very catchable chance at slip.
However this was as good at Datchet’s afternoon got.

Bagshot skipper Davis batted with great determination for 63 and was supported by a youngster at no 9 who scored 45.
Tilley returned to take the 8th wicket and remove Skipper Davis but not until the score had moved to 160-8. Tilley then took another to remove the youngster but disaster then struck…..JP running and diving on the boundry landed on his shoulder and dislocated it. He was in obvious pain and the game had to be stopped and Tea taken. Datchet would like to thank the Bagshot scorer for her care and attention she gave JP .She stayed him as did the aforementioned youngster who scored 45 until the paramedics and ambulance arrived to take JP to hospital. We all wish JP a quick recovery and from what this scribe saw he will be a real asset to the 1st X1 next season.

The game restarted and Lambert returned to the attack to take his 7th wicket. Lambert finished with 7-41 which was his best ever return in league cricket for Datchet.

Datchet batting…….what can I say……Tilley was shocked to be given out caught behind and looked lost. Luckily for him a couple of helpful Bagshot players were able to point out the direction of the pavilion for him.
Alldis had a rare failure , Tom Jones got in…played some lovely shots and then hit the ball straight up in the air…..Oram was LBW off his box , Adam Jones failed , George played one rash shot after his usual excellent demonstration of concentration and value of wicket. The tail all failed and Datchet were 94 all out. It was a weak batting display to say the least and Datchet will need to bat a lot better to remain in 2nd place this season. From having the opposition 55-7 it was an exceptionally poor result also.
